Arbor Day — Dedicated to the care and preservation or trees, and the planting of new ones.  Today is an investment in our future.

National Hairball Awareness Day — I mean not that anyone wants to think about these lovely gifts from our cats, but now you’re aware.

National Pigs-in-a-Blanket Day — Hot dogs wrapped in dough and cooked until golden brown and delicious.  Does it get any better?

TODAY IN HISTORY

1184 BC – The traditional date for the Fall of Troy. marking the end to the legendary (and mythic) Trojan War.
1704 – The first Boston News-Letter, the first published newspaper in British North America, is printed. It will appear weekly until 1776.
1800 – President John Adams signs legislation authoring $5000 for the purchase of “such books as may be necessary for the use of Congress”, thus establishing the US Library of Congress.
1990 – The Hubble Space Telescope is launched from the Space Shuttle Discovery.
