Daily Video for June 2 – Elizabeth II Coronation

The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II

On June 2, 1953, Queen Elizabeth II is crowned queen of ” the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Her Other Realms and Territories & Head of the Commonwealth.”  She assumed the thrown and began her rule on February 6 the previous year upon the death of her father, King George VI, but a formal coronation ceremony was not held for almost a year out of a tradition of allowing adequate time to pass for mourning the previous monarch.

As of this year, she has been on the throne longer than any British monarch, ruling for 68 years, passing the 63 years of her great-great grandmother, Victoria, in 2015.

Check out this video that is newsreel footage of the event, the first major international event to be televised:

Daily Video for June 1 – Eichmann Executed

The Execution of Adolf Eichmann

On June 1, 1962, the so called “Architect of the Final Solution (Holocaust)”, Adolf Eichmann was executed in Israel for his crimes against humanity and genocide for his role in the Holocaust — the only person to ever receive that sentence in Israel.

With World War II ending in 1945, why did it take until 1962 to bring him to justice?  It’s a story of escape and changed identities and a group of secret agents who tracked him down, kidnapped him, and took him to trial.
